Our values of Safety & Care, Honesty & Integrity, Customer Focus, Working Together, and Performance Excellence guide our actions and achievements.
Throughout the year, we encourage staff to nominate fellow team members for living our values and purpose. In 2024 we received 282 nominations from across our Aveng, McConnell Dowell, Built Environs and Moolmans businesses. These were shortlisted to 12 finalists and following a vote from our Executive Leadership Team we are pleased to announce that our 2024 Aveng Values Awards winner is George Siaose Tupou, Supervisor on the Queen Salote International Wharf Project in Tonga.
George was nominated by Senior Project Manager Frank Schubert who was impressed with his outstanding embodiment of Performance Excellence. Beyond George’s delivery of top quality finished concrete in difficult environments and meeting tight milestones to complete Phase 1 pavement on time, George’s natural leadership and cooperative spirit were the reasons behind Frank’s nomination. George is known for his ability to uplift crew skills to enable work across multiple fronts as a respected supervisor who inspires his team. Additionally, George’s efforts extend to the local community where he has collaborated with colleagues to train a local rugby team, creating opportunities for a better future.
Being chosen from such a large pool of nominations highlights George’s exceptional achievements and his commitment to living our values every day. Congratulations, George, on this well-deserved recognition!
The New Midland Station project has reached a major milestone: the new, more than 800-bay, multi-storey car park is officially open!
The car park's exterior design acknowledges both the geographical landmarks and the colours of local Aboriginal language groups. The bright exterior colours represent the area between the Western Australian Coast and the nearby Darling Ranges. The facade pattern also maps the shape of the Swan, Canning, and Helena Rivers.
With the new car park now open, the old car park will be decommissioned allowing construction to begin on the temporary and permanent bus interchange.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the communities where we work, McConnell Dowell, the principal contractor for Unitywater's Aura and Harmony Program, has donated a $1500 Milwaukee Kit to the Caloundra Men's Shed.
We committed to donate excess small tools to the shed, and it's exciting to see this come to fruition, as the Aura and Harmony Program nears completion.
MCD Construction Manager Grant Gibson, and Stakeholder Engagement Manager Purdey Wikman joined Alex and Mick from the Caloundra Men's Shed, which boasts a membership of more than 80 men and women from the Caloundra area.
Members of Men's Sheds come from all walks of life, united by a bond of community-minded people who are willing to help others. They work on community projects and provide a safe and happy environment, enhancing the health and wellbeing of all members.

As a member of the Western Program Alliance, we've kicked off works to upgrade accessibility and connectivity at Ballarat Station to make it easier for passengers to get around the station precinct.
Our Alliance team will deliver a new pedestrian overpass, along with lifts and stairs installed at both platforms.
We will also upgrade the northern entry to the station, with a new ramp and stairs to be built, along with improvements to lighting and landscaping. The upgrades will help improve accessibility for people with a disability, prams or luggage.
Community feedback helped to shape the final designs which were released last year, with further architectural work completed to reduce the visual impacts of the new accessible overpass on the existing station buildings.
The project will be completed in 2026.
