We are pleased to announce Jim Miller as the new Regional General Manager for Victoria & Tasmania, taking the helm of our operations across both states.

Jim’s journey with McConnell Dowell began in 1994, when he joined us as a young engineer. Over the years, he has progressively stepped into project and business leadership roles, demonstrating unwavering dedication and a commitment to excellence.

After a brief interlude away, Jim rejoined our team in 2023 as the Alliance General Manager for the $2 billion Western Program Alliance. He has since served on the Victoria and Tasmania Regional Management team, establishing himself as a recognised and respected leader in the industry.

In his new role, Jim will oversee our strategic growth, operational delivery, stakeholder partnerships, and safety culture throughout the two states. His deep regional experience, coupled with a proven history of leading high‑value projects, positions him perfectly to guide us forward.

Join us in congratulating Jim as he steps into this exciting leadership chapter! We look forward to the continued innovation and impact he will bring to our Victoria & Tasmania teams.

We are pleased to announce that we have officially signed the contract with SA Water to deliver the Eyre Peninsula Desalination Plant Marine Works.

This project plays a key role in supporting a more reliable and climate independent water supply for the Eyre Peninsula, reducing reliance on the Uley South Basin and preparing the region for future growth.

Our team will be delivering a mix of marine and outfall works, including micro-tunnelling, intake and outfall pipelines, minor dredging and installation of an intake tower and outfall diffuser.

This is an important project that aligns perfectly with our focus on delivering infrastructure that 'Provides a Better Life'.

Well done to our team on achieving practical completion on the Port of Melbourne Swanson Dock West Remediation Project Stage 1.

This milestone marks the successful delivery of critical infrastructure to extend the life of one of Melbourne’s busiest international container berths.

Key features of the project include:

  • Installation of 212 structural steel piles, up to 46 metres long
  • 1,800 tonnes of reinforcing steel
  • Pouring of more than 6400 m³ of concrete
  • Remediation of the existing sheet pile wall and marine piles
  • Implementation of a new cathodic protection system.

This complex marine remediation project was delivered safely and efficiently in a live operational port environment — made possible by our collaborative partnership with Port of Melbourne and our sub-contractors.

A huge thank you to our dedicated project team, our sub-contractors, Port of Melbourne, and all stakeholders involved in making this a success.

For those who love construction—and let's face it, you wouldn't be here if you didn't—here's two videos wrapping up the New Bridgewater Bridge Project in Tasmania

See the three years of construction unfold in two minutes, or dive deeper and hear from some of the team who delivered the project.

Can you tell we're proud of this one?

1 June 2025 marked a historic milestone with the official opening of the New Bridgewater Bridge, a transformative infrastructure project that will reshape connectivity in southern Tasmania.

The day began with a ceremonial ribbon cutting attended by dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, followed by a first official drive across the bridge. Despite the unmistakably chilly Bridgewater morning, spirits were high as the community came together to witness this landmark event.

The celebrations continued with a vibrant Community Day, held in the project’s custom-built precast shed. Thousands of locals took the opportunity to walk the new bridge, with shuttle buses ferrying attendees to and from the site throughout the day. The event was a fitting tribute to the role the local community has played in supporting this ambitious endeavour.

To cap off the day, the McConnell Dowell team came together for a well-earned celebration at the nearby Derwent Estate, reflecting on the years of planning, collaboration, and hard work that brought the bridge to life.

The New Bridgewater Bridge stands not only as a feat of engineering but as a testament to what can be achieved when innovation, teamwork and community spirit come together.

Well done team.
