Pago Pago Runway Upgrade 5-23 Stages 2 & 3

- Replacement of 100 – 153mm (4-6 inches) of asphalt, along 2133.6 metres (7,000 feet) of the 3048 metre (10,000 foot) runway.
- 45,000 tonnes of asphalt will be produced and paved over the next 12 months.

McConnell Dowell’s American Samoa branch was awarded the contract to resurface and rehabilitate the asphalt pavement on the primary runway at Pago Pago International Airport in mid-2023.
This is the ninth project McConnell Dowell has been awarded for the Pago Pago International Airport. The most recent were the successful completion of Stage One of Runway 5-23 in 2018 when 915m (3,000 feet) of the runway was upgraded and the Apron Rehabilitation Project in 2020.

Papa Uniform Golf Taxilane Replacement

The Papa, Uniform, Golf Taxilane Slab Replacement project involved upgrading the concrete pavement at Melbourne International Airport.
Melbourne Airports CEO Lyell Stambi said “This was a fantastic project and program, and an excellent combined effort between all involved. This project had little or no unscheduled operational impact on the Airport and its key stakeholders and is definitely one to be proud of”.


Dryandra Road Underpass

The Dryandra Road Works contract was a significant part of the New Parallel Runway (NPR) project for Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).
The Project involved the construction of a 1.5 km long, four-lane reinforced concrete underpass structure, supported on approximately 700 precast concrete piles. The underpass allows vehicular access on either side of the new linking taxiways, which were constructed as part of the NPR project.

The Construction of a 154 m long x 48 m wide extension to the existing 35-year-old wharf in Lautoka, Fiji was one of the largest undertaken in Fiji, doubling berthing capacity.

We're upgrading the Queen Sālote International Wharf for the Tonga Ports Authority. The port is the country’s main international port and a lifeline for the people of Tonga, with an estimated 98% of the country's imports arriving by sea.

We navigated the complex airside security, occupational health, safety, and environmental processes to deliver, the Perth Airport Terminal 1 Domestic Pier and International Departures Expansion project, in just 33 months.


RAF Base Pearce Redevelopment Stage 1

By maintaining regular communication between key stakeholders we managed the complex processes and permissions required to work safely in an operational airport.
Detailed planning and programming meetings with the client, suppliers and other airside stakeholders were the secret to the project's success. All the processes were followed, and the necessary permissions were in place ahead of time avoiding any delays to the job.

Joint Ventures

Puhinui Station Interchange
Customer: Auckland Transport

Location: Papatoetoe, Auckland

- Developed a New Zealand-first 'rail protection deck', enabling construction to take place safely over a live rail network
- New station platform, lift, covered concourse, and a 90m canopy
- 10 short-term parking bays, four 'kiss and ride' bays, and two new bus stops
- two mobility bays, six operational parking spaces, and an all-day parking zone for scooters and motorcycles

This project is a great example of the two businesses working together to provide customers with a multi-discipline design and construction services with a single, seamless management interface and delivery.
Together with the client, designer, and rail operator Kiwirail, we developed the 'rail protection deck' a New Zealand-first. The temporary works innovation safely separated the live rail network and the construction activities above it, so work could be carried out during the day, reducing disruption to travellers and nearby residents.
