This project included construction of a 145 TJ per day gas compression and water treatment hub with associated infrastructure and water gathering lines at the coal seam gas fields near Roma in Queensland. The infrastructure enabled collection and processing of gas for delivery via an export pipeline to an LNG processing plant on Curtis Island, off Gladstone.
The large and complex project required a multi-disciplinary approach, with a focus on facilities for gas compression, power generation and water treatment, in addition to pipeline construction. The scope of works expanded considerably during the course of the project. Experienced and qualified personnel were also in short supply with many other LNG projects in progress across the state.
McConnell Dowell mobilised a substantial skilled workforce and managed ongoing changes to the scope of works through continuous review of the delivery strategy, and a flexible response to changing resource and program requirements. The Roma Hub delivered by McConnell Dowell was the most cost-effective of three similar facilities built by Santos.
Outcome
An integrated multi-disciplinary team, with the ability to self-perform a large percentage of the works, including engineering, civil, pipelines, structural, mechanical and piping, and electrical and instrumentation disciplines, was the key to cost-effective and flexible performance while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
