13 Our Vision for Reconciliation McConnell Dowell and Built Environs are committed to reconciliation in Australia. Our vision is for the construction industry and the communities in which we work to develop stronger and deeper relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples for the benefit of all Australians. Together, we strive to achieve a shared future that is inclusive and equitable for all Australians. We are in a privileged position, through our diverse portfolio of projects across all regions of Australia, to be able to provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to participate in the procurement and delivery of our projects and contribute to the advancement of reconciliation within the communities in which we work. We are proud to be on this reconciliation journey, and we will continue to learn, grow, and take action to achieve our Vision. During the delivery of the Echuca Moama Bridge Project, our team took every opportunity to support local First Peoples’ businesses and increase employment opportunities for First Nations people. Through the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation relationship, AKO Earth was endorsed by the Elders to work on some of the project’s most culturally sacred sites. Supported by the project team, AKO Earth’s business grew from sole trader status to that of an experienced subcontracting company, employing eight people at peak times during the project.
