Built Environs Company Profile
ThePuhinui Interchange is key component of the Southwest Gateway, a programme aimed at enhancing public transport connectivity betweenAuckland Airport and theCBD. Built Environs andMcConnell Dowell are working in partnership to deliver the early works contract for client Auckland Transport. The project includes demolition of part of the existing Puhinui Station footbridge and construction of a newmultimodal interchange, and will incorporate an at-grade bus area, Kiss and Ride parking, cycle facilities and landscaping. As well as modifications to the existing central island train platform, an elevated concourse will feature stairs, lifts and escalators, a HOP ticket gate line, and staff and retail facilities. Drawing on Built Environs’ considerable ECI experience, our team refined designs, and developed innovative methodologies and temporary works tomaximise safety outcomes andminimise disruption to passengers, freight and staff in the busy operational environment. In a NewZealand first, the teamdesigned a bespoke rail protection deck, allowing the team to safely transport materials between the tracks without closing the train line. This innovation allows construction on the live network 24/7 (work to continue during the day without any requirement for night or weekend work) andminimises disruption for the local residents. Throughout the design and construction phase, the team worked closely with KiwiRail and Auckland Transport to ensure the protection deckmet requirements including design clearances, structural capacity and integrity. Being the first time such a structure had been proposed for use on a rail construction project in NewZealand, the deck underwent through several design and safety reviews to approve the structure as a safe and effective risk management strategy and demonstrates Built Environs’ collaborative approach to building capacity. The Puhinui Interchange project will be completed in 2021. Soon after launching in NewZealand in 2018, Built Environs successfully tendered andwas awarded the Auckland CityMission (ACM) HomeGround Development. When complete, the project will provide a purpose-built, safe space to stand against homelessness, hunger and poor health. The newmulti-storey facility will include 80 supportive housing units and wrap-around services including a medical centre, detoxification centre, education and training facilities, emergency support and meal services, budgeting advice and other support networks. The scope of work includes demolition of three existing buildings and refurbishment of the heritage-listed Prince of Wales building. The new ACM building is constructed of cross-laminated timber (CLT), becoming the tallest CLT building in New Zealand. “Built Environs was selected because they understood the importance of this project to Auckland and the overall objectives of the Mission. They have brought together a very strong and experienced team to work on this building.” Chris Farrelly, Auckland City Missioner Puhinui Exchange Location: Contract: Customer: Papatoetoe, Auckland, New Zealand Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), Built Environs/McConnell Dowell Joint Venture Auckland Transport Auckland City Mission Location: Contract: Customer: Auckland, New Zealand Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), Fixed Lump Sum Auckland City Mission Our Projects Our Projects
