Situated at the historic Adelaide Oval, Oval Hotel is the first of its kind in Australia and a one of a kind accommodation experience anywhere in the world, and reflects Built Environs capability to construct complex, creative buildings in the heart of the city. Wrapping gently around the eastern façade of Adelaide Oval and interfacing seamlessly with the existing structure, each room at Oval Hotel enjoys park land views and first class finishes and amenities. Built Environs’ scope of work included two hotel wings (North and South) featuring 138 boutique hotel rooms and suites, a large feature lobby area on Level 3, and inclusion of valet parking within the existing Adelaide Oval underground structure. The Hotel was built on two elevated pods, following the external curves of the eastern façade of the fully operational stadium. Completed in just over 12 months, the hotel’s primary building fabric is 757 Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) panels totalling 13,000m2. It is one of the first CLT buildings constructed in South Australia. The combination of this light-weight sustainable building product and modular design enabled the project team to construct the hotel in a confined work site and on an accelerated program. To eliminate disruption to the venue’s patrons and park land users, Built Environs commenced off-site pre-fabrication work ahead of major construction works starting at the conclusion of the AFL season. With more than 800 local construction jobs generated by the project, the Built Environs’ Teammet all requirements of the state’s Industry Participation Policy, including the use of locally produced steel. Close collaboration between Built Environs, client Stadium Management Authority, the State Government, and a complex cohort of stadium users and stakeholders was integral to the on- time delivery of this world class project.
