McConnell Dowell, with URS (now AECOM) as designer, partnered with Meridian on the NZ$40M, four-year refurbishment project to repair the gradual erosion of embankments and do seismic and flood protection work around the site. Working within a brief to deliver a safe, low-risk and long-term remediation solution that did not impact on operational productivity during construction, the team took an innovative approach to the particular challenges the site presented, and provided Meridian with a long lasting design solution while mitigating numerous safety and environmental risks, and saving the client half the original budget.
Meridian was delighted with the proposed solutions, health and safety management, contract management, and technical work, saying “the work was executed to a very high standard and the finished products are excellent.”
At the same awards event, McConnell Dowell Operations Manager Joe Edwards was recognised with a CCNZ Life Membership for his services to what is now Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ). Joe served on the National Executive of CCNZ for 13 years including two years as President. He played a major part in bringing Roading New Zealand and the former NZ Contractors Federation together to create a much more united and effective contracting industry body as well as leading the CCNZ input into the drafting and review of the new Health and Safety legislation.
