Our team on the Ngā Hau Māngere project in Auckland, New Zealand, had a key driver around sustainability and worked with a local community club to find ways to reuse and recycle materials from the site.
McConnell Dowell delivered wood salvaged from the old bridge to the local Māngere Pony club where the beams were cut down and used for fencing.
About 6500 tonnes of concrete from the old bridge deck was also diverted from the landfill. It was transported to a local demolition facility where it was crushed up and reused as fill around pipes and in other construction projects.
