Recycled plastic tanks save money and the environment

To combat emissions and increase the use of recycled products, our team on the Webb St Level Crossing Removal Project in Victoria, replaced precast concrete retention tanks with a recycled plastic equivalent.

Poly-fabrics stormwater modules were identified as a suitable alternative to the initial design option of concrete precast units. Subsequently three modules were installed under the new railway station carpark for stormwater retention.

In advantages of this product over concrete are many, including:

  • savings of approximately 50% in material supply and installation costs.
  • reduced greenhouse gas emissions from the embodied carbon of the product, including the material, transportation, and installation.
  • introducing more waste material into projects, activating the circular economy.
  • substituting concrete with an alternate lower emission material.

That's a win-win-win-win!
