On the Hunua 4 Project in Auckland (a 3.5 km trunk watermain constructed using trenchless methodologies), McConnell Dowell’s in-house survey team used LiDAR scanning to capture the existing conditions and produce highly accurate point clouds of the pipe jacking trenches and TBM reception shafts, where direction and level changes occurred between the bored sections.
Our Digital Engineering team referenced these point clouds in the design software to produce models for the connecting steel pipework.
The resulting prefabricated sections were installed without the need for onsite fabrication or modification, contributing to a safer and more efficient construction methodology.
