On the Aura and Harmony project in Queensland our team used a creative construction method to excavate a 7.5 m internal diameter sewer pump station caisson to a depth of 14 m through some challenging conditions.
The timelapse shows us successfully excavating the 14-metre-deep hole and the innovative wet well caisson technique in use. This method is used when it's not practical to reach suitable soil - in this case, the challenge was difficult geotechnical and relentless wet weather conditions. The 'caisson' is gradually sunk into place by removing material from the inside or adding weight, and once it is at the desired depth, the bottom is sealed.
