Reusable plastic formwork systems (Geotubs) from the local supplier Everitts were used as the column forms on the Corban Reserve Stormwater Upgrade project in New Zealand.
Their use on the project revealed several benefits:
- Lightweight: Geotubs weigh a maximum of 10 kg, allowing them to be handled quickly on site without the need for cranes or other mechanical lifting devices.
- Quick Installation: The lock-in pin arrangement makes these forms faster to install, and a single person can easily handle and assemble them.
- Modular Design: Each element is 600 mm long, so only the necessary components are used for each pour.
- Water Resistant: Geotubs are ideal for marine applications due to their water resistance.
- Versatile: They can be combined with Geopanel to produce oval columns, making them perfect for car park constructions.
- Reusable: These formworks are highly cost-effective, as they can be reused over 100 times with proper use and maintenance.
- Easy Dismantling: Concrete does not adhere to plastic, which simplifies the dismantling process.
- Convenient Storage: Geotubs can be safely stored even in damp environments.
Additionally, at the end of the project, these formworks were sent back to the supplier for reuse in future projects, contributing to the circular economy initiative.
