Creating long-term employment and training opportunities for First Nations communities

As part of the joint venture delivering the Kidston Pumped Hydro Project for Genex Power, we’re helping create long-term employment and training opportunities for First Nations communities in Far North Queensland through our partnership with Australian Training Works (ATW).

Located near Georgetown, the 250MW Kidston Pumped Hydro Project is Australia’s first new pumped hydro development in more than 40 years. Built within a former gold mine, the project will deliver 2GWh of renewable energy storage capacity and play an important role in supporting Australia’s clean energy transition.

Working alongside our project team, ATW has successfully recruited, trained and supported Ewamian Traditional Owners and other First Nations workers across a range of apprenticeships and traineeships — significantly exceeding the project’s Indigenous engagement targets. The program combines targeted recruitment with mentoring, cultural support and industry-recognised training to help build long-term career pathways beyond the life of the project.

Through this partnership, we’re proud to be delivering not only critical renewable energy infrastructure, but also meaningful social outcomes that support Indigenous participation, workforce development and regional economic growth.
