Building Futures - Bridgewater Bridge's School Program

As a fantastic way of introducing primary and secondary school students to construction as a future career choice, our New Bridgewater Bridge team have initiated a hands-on educational outreach program.

During a structured visit to the site, the students start their “construction experience”, with traditional “prestart stretches”, before boarding the bus for their tour. The bus trip takes in the massive new bridge itself and the purpose-built precasting yard, where the concrete bridge segments are being produced.

During the tour we explain that our largest bridge segment weighs almost as much as a blue whale… prompting one recent student to ask 'how can they just balance in the air?’ With an inquisitive mind like that, we think they're a future engineer in the making.

So far we've hosted 10 different schools engaging with over 225 students with a broad mix of ages and learning abilities.
