Our team on the Ovingham Level Crossing Removal Project in South Australia used a concrete methodology that had never been used before in Australia and which saved significant construction time.
Ramp walls were created from ‘Techwall’ panels – a retaining wall system consisting of full-height concrete units that are secured to a cast-in-place footing.
The Torrens Road bridge had 29 Techwall units installed along the eastern ramp, compared with 181 smaller precast panels that comprise the western ramp. This enabled a faster overall ramp build.
Techwalls are widely used overseas in America and Europe, so our project engineers were excited to be the first to use this product in Australia.
